Basic Purpose
End of the learning curve and making progress toward full competency in the geophysical discipline. Independent contributor for routine assignments which will increase to a more complex and multidiscipline environment. Multi-tasking ability in the area of geophysics.
Defines scope and requirements of major geophysical projects., including economic objectives. Develop sound solutions to specialized geophysical problems that are cost effective. Contribute to the transfer of corporate technology. Perform the more complex non-routine seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation. Will be called upon to lead other team members. May act as MDT Lead on small to medium sized projects.
Roles & Responsibility
Part of the subsurface MDT that conduct geosciences assessments of exploration prospects & leads, providing bid round recommendations for new acreage acquisition, and performing regional scale play evaluations
Lead the structural and stratigraphic interpretation of seismic data.
Integration of seismic and well log data to develop geophysical models to characterize the expected seismic responses
Interacting with drilling, reservoir engineering, facilities engineers, and financial analyst to properly characterize the risk, resource volumes, and economic value of exploration prospects
Work closely with the geologist and reservoir engineers to maximize current production assets and optimize well locations for undeveloped assets.
Quality control for reprocessing of 2D and 3D seismic data, including time and depth migration, and planning new seismic acquisition programs.
Identifying and utilizing internal and external expertise to solve geotechnical challenges.
Identifying and applying emerging technologies (e.g., fracture detection, pore pressure prediction, etc.)
Experience in Unix and PC based systems, Seismic data loading, QA/QC SEGY data, Landmark Seis works and syntool.
Staying current of industry geophysical technology.
Ability to work with partners and government .
Mentoring less senior staff and interns
Qualifications
Required Qualification
Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences
8+ years’ experience as an exploration and or development geophysicist
Strong background in clastic depositional systems, seismic sequence stratigraphy, and the geophysical modeling methods
5+ year experience in
Utilizing seismic sequence stratigraphic concepts and working with geologists to constrain geologic models for reservoir characterization with seismic data
Integrating petrophysical log data, and seismic data to develop facies models for quantification of reservoir parameters
3 years functional experience using 2D/3D Landmark SeisWorks, ZMAP or Petrosys, SynAVO, Converge, MAGI, and Prima software
Ability to work effectively with geologist & engineers in a team environment
One year of direct experience in QC'ing processing.
Strong background in data management with the abilitiy to reach across systems to retrieve data.
Experience in merging large regional sets of 2D data for phase, amplitude and time corrections.
Must be highly motivated, and have the ability to work self-directed to identify and overcome obstacles.
Good communication skills and creativity.
